TheBalm Cosmetics: Balm Jovi Rockstar Palette Review

This is an old palette now as it was released in September 2012. But hey, for me it was new. I really wanted to try an eyeshadow palette from TheBalm cosmetics and this looked perfect because it also included a highlighter, blush and two lip colours. As for the eyeshadows, it comes with 12 shades, 7 matte and 5 shimmery/frosted. They come with “rockstar” names to match the theme of this palette which is a fun touch. I found that most of the shadows had pretty good pigmentation, apart from the shades Lead Zepplin, REM and Adagio. The shades that had fallout were Alice Cooper and Lead Zepplin.

The price –

You can purchase the palette for $39.50 from TheBalm online, or from stores like Khols, which is where I bought this, for the same price. For what it includes, I would say that price is reasonable.

The packaging –

The lip products have a separate flap to protect it from any fallout and it also includes 4 “looks” you can create with the eyeshadows. I wasn’t however, too fond of the packaging as a whole. It may have worked at the time, but just like the designs from that “Ed Hardy” era, it now looks a little outdated and tacky. I’ve read reviews where many people loved the packaging so maybe it is just me? The main reason for buying the palette was because it included extra things like the highlighter.

Verdict –

Overall, I would not repurchase or recommend this product for several reasons. Firstly, if you have sensitive eyes (which I do), the eyeshadows will most likely irritate them, as it did for me. Obviously my eyes were not fond of one or more of the ingredients in the product 😢. Secondly, the eyeshadows just weren’t working for me. I felt that the colour combinations didn’t really work and that I could not use the palette on its own to create a unique eye look. I have other palettes with less eyeshadows, that can create more of a wow factor. Thirdly, I wasn’t a huge fan of the lip colours and blush; they just didn’t suit my skin tone (light tan, olive). On a positive note, I did love the highlighter shade (solid gold), and I believe it is very similar to their Mary Lou Minizer. The palette is also travel-friendly. If you have any questions let me know, or if you own this palette, would love to know your thoughts on it!
