“The red sole was born from red nail polish. I am giving back to beauty what the shoes took from the nails many years ago.” –Christian Louboutin
Upon first impression of this nail polish I have to say it is beautifully designed and packaged. Just like a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes, it’s almost like buying a piece of art. I was lucky enough to have received three for my birthday, and I loved them so much I went out and bought another two (yup crazy). That’s where I draw the line though as they come with a hefty price tag (more on that later). I fell in love with the design more than anything, as you can get quality nail polish for a quarter of the price, however, the Louboutin nail polish does live up to the hype. It is long lasting (up to 7 days), chip resistant, fast drying, highly pigmented, super glossy and easy to apply. I have also found that most of the shades I own don’t have an overpowering toxic nail polish smell which is great. Another positive is that they are formulated without Toluene, Formaldehyde or DBP.
Now onto the price, they retail for $50 US each and you can purchase them straight from the Louboutin website or high end stores like Saxs Fifth Avenue and they are also available online at Sephora. They come in 3 different collections including Pops, Nudes and Noirs (each with 10 shades), and in a class of its own, the classic red shade which is Rouge Louboutin, and each are 0.4oz (13ml). The negatives include not being travel-friendly and high price. So is it worth it? I have read mixed reviews, some thinking it is worth it, some not at all. I believe they are definitely a splurge item or if you are a Louboutin fan, they are a must-have. Otherwise I would suggest purchasing cheaper nail polish that matches in quality (Like O.P.I).
Such a vibrant red, almost exactly the same shade as their famous red sole. It stands at 8 inches tall which I’ve read was inspired by the tallest heel Christian Louboutin created, the ballerina Ultima. The bottle has a stunning ombre effect of black to red. This colour is so beautiful and definitely a stand out. I don’t wear red too often but I would have to say this shade is definitely my favourite.
Noirs – Sevillana
Standing at around 7 inches and from the Noirs collection, Sevillana is a deep burgundy shade that is very complimentary.
Noirs – Farida
Another from the Noirs collection, Farida is a shimmery brown with bronze undertones.
Pops – Miss Loubi
From the Pops collection and again standing at around 7 inches, Miss Loubi is a bright coral pink colour. I would wear this when I’m feeling out there as it is very bright and bold.
Nudes – Tres Decolette
Lastly, and from the Nudes collection, Tres Decolette is a soft candy pink colour. This is my go-to nail polish when I want a very subtle but still well-groomed look. I usually apply two coats of this shade just to even out any patches and unevenness.
So there you have it, my Louboutin nail polish collection. Is the price a bit excessive for nail polish? Sure, but it’s still a lot cheaper than buying a pair of red bottoms, and almost look just as good on display. I love my mini collection and treasure it dearly. Do you guys have any high end nail polish? Is it worth it? Let me know in the comments below.
