There a lot of chemicals and toxins that have made their way into our food, it can get really confusing when to know what to eat and what not to eat. So I’ve made it really simple and just listed the top 12. Make it a habit to read the ingredients in your food rather than the calories. Here’s what to look for –
- Palm oil
- Corn Syrup or High Fructose Corn Syrup
- Cottonseed oil
- Soybean oil
- Hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oil (these are the evil trans fats)
- Antibiotics in meat
- Artificial sweeteners
- Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA)
- Artificial colours (blue 1 and 2, green 3, red 3 and 40, and yellow 5 and 6 are the worst offenders)
- Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)
- Carrageenan (commonly found in organic dairy products)
It would be very long to list all the problems with these toxic ingredients, and to be honest, it has been done a thousand times already. Just google any one of these listed and there will be A LOT of information for you to read. Again, to simplify life, the most important thing that you need to know about these ingredients is that most of them are endocrine disrupters (hormone regulation), carcinogenic (cancer causing), impact your sleep, cause heart disease, diabetes, obesity, migraines, thyroid damage, increase cholesterol and none of them have ANY nutritional value whatsoever.
The really scary thing is that many of the chemicals that are allowed in food in the USA are banned in Australia and many other counties. The food laws in Australia are much stricter than in the US so you really have to watch what you are eating over here. You may think its safe when it may not be. I have found many (of the exact same) products in Australia do not have the toxic chemicals it’s US counterpart does. If you want to read more about the differences/comparisons in food, click here. Food babe, Vani Hari compares US products to the same ones in the UK.
I hope you have found this helpful!
